Hello! Thanks for visiting our About Us page. Figheadh Yarnworks is Jennifer Hagan (that's me) and my husband Fred Hagan and was born on a winter’s morning in 2003. We created this business in order to immerse ourselves in the fascination of needle arts, specifically knitting--with a little crochet thrown in now and again.

Like many other fiber artists, I was introduced to needlework by my grandmother as a preteen. She taught me to crochet, and I learned how to knit while in college in the mid-70’s. The knitting came in very handy when I had my three daughters. When I became a high school English teacher, however, I had to put down my needles for ten long years. In 2002 I reclaimed my knitting, and it wasn’t long before I yearned to create patterns from my own designs. Knitting is the perfect creative outlet for me because of the endless possibility of knitted fabric. Learning traditional knitting design in its myriad forms is a fantastically endless venture and I love the challenge it brings.

Fred and I took the name of this business from the Gaelic for knitting and weaving because we have both always been inspired by Celtic art and culture. Our business is focused on keeping art alive through an ancient hand craft. It is our belief that we can never let die all the richness of our artistic craft heritage. It is a joy to witness as more and more artisans revive the old arts and crafts. We hope they never die. We don’t think they will. In a world where most of our goods are produced by machine, the words “hand made” have deeper significance. We are so glad you share this love of handicraft. We hope that Figheadh Yarnworks aids you in your craft.
